Gianni Washington

Gianni Washington is an African American writer who grew up in Maryland and North Carolina, with a lifelong interest in alternative literary cultures, from Japanese manga to the occult. Her tastes tend toward the eerier areas of fiction, primarily horror, the Gothic, and science fiction. A recent American repatriate, she spent six years living and working in London, England as a bookseller. 

Gianni has a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from UNC Chapel Hill, a Master of Fine Arts from Otis College of Art and Design in Creative Writing, and earned a Ph.D. in Creative Writing from The University of Surrey with Janus, a horror novel that follows twins with terrifying abilities and an all-consuming bond. Currently, she is working on a collection of short stories inspired by classic works of horror fiction. Her work has been published in The Fat City Review online, LitroNY.com, and in the horror anthology Brief Grislys. She is also featured on the December 2020 episode of The Great American Folk Show reading an excerpt from her short story, “Homunculus.”

Her debut novel, Janus, and short story collection, Flowers from the Void, are will be published by Serpent’s Tail, UK in 2024 and 2026.
